You Shouldn’t Let Limited Mobility Stop You From Enjoying July 4th Celebrations

July 4, 2023 By Jeff Conner

You should not let mobility challenges prevent you from getting the most out of everyday life including participating in July 4th celebrations that you enjoy most! With some simple tips, you can create an accessible setting to observe, attend, or host holiday festivities. What are your Independence Day plans this year?

A barrier to July 4th festivities, like parades and picnics, is often related to accessibility. Do you live with mobility issues, limitations, or challenges? Perhaps the key to enjoying your Independence Day celebrations is to ensure you have access, convenience, and comfort. This is where mobility aids and accessibility solutions can come in. Consider the following mobility tips and suggestions when planning your holiday this year:

Charge It Up

Do your part to make sure you are ready for the day by charging device batteries before leaving the house. This includes the batteries for scooters and chairs, as well as cell phones, whatever you may need throughout the day. Plan ahead by getting gas early, or by making ride-share preparations well in advance for the busy holiday.

Use Fireworks with Care

Use care when planning or using fireworks. Make sure no pets or children are near, and never point or toss fireworks toward someone else. Read the labels and follow instructions; keep a bucket of water or a fire extinguisher nearby, too.

Be cognizant and compassionate of the effects that loud noises like fireworks can have on others. Some people are sensitive to the sound, and it can cause pain for many pets. If you plan on using fireworks at your party, make sure to let others and guests know ahead of time.

Call Ahead Regarding Ramps

Before you go to your holiday events and activities, make sure the venue is accessible. Call ahead to determine if there is wheelchair access or accommodations available for you. It can get hot; bring water to stay hydrated and cool.

Choose Technology for Convenience

Not sure that you are up to the crowds? Thankfully, you don’t have to leave the house to see fireworks displays, parades, and more holiday happenings! Ask another participant to stream or video the event or consider a Zoom call with you while it is going on. Currently, there are a lot of techy options that make it possible to enjoy these activities from home.

Make the Most of Mobility Equipment

Bring along your walker, scooter, portable ramp, cane, or whatever is needed to support you in accessibility. If you are sharing a ride, make sure they are aware of the equipment you are bringing along. Don’t have mobility aids? Here is a view to consider:

  • Vehicle lifts easily transfer from a chair or scooter to the driver’s seat.
  • Rolling walkers feature a bench seat for a spot to sit down as needed. Consider portable benches and seats, also.
  • If you are hosting guests, know that grab bars placed in vulnerable spots near the toilets, sinks, and steps provide a measure of safety for all, including yourself!
  • Toss a reaching or grabbing tool in your bag and take it on the go. You never know when this aid will come in handy and possibly lessen the chance of an accident or injury.

Wondering about acquiring mobility aids to enhance access? Talk to a professional about aids and equipment that can truly improve quality of life!

Keep Safety in Mind

There are some basic holiday safety strategies that help ensure everyone enjoys July 4th. Whether hosting, attending, or spending a quiet Independence Day at home, keep the following in mind:

  • Not feeling well? Do the right thing and stay home if you are sick. This prevents possible illness from spreading to a wider group of people that may be attending the same events that you are.
  • If you are planning on a fireworks display, always wear protective eyewear. Also, store your fireworks away from pets and kids, in a cool, dry place. Fireworks are dangerous; use them carefully and respectfully.
  • Never use your grill inside, it is a recipe for disaster. Do not grill indoors anyplace, not in an RV, tent, sunporch, or anywhere that is enclosed as it poses a serious fire risk.
  • On the topic of grilling, make sure that you position the grill a good distance from anything that could catch fire, including your house or home. Also, invest in grilling tools that are outfitted with longer handles, to prevent burns and accidents.
  • Planning a pool party? Choose a person who has the responsibility of watching those in the water. There should always be someone designated to supervise water activities at all times.

Enjoy your 4th of July to the fullest. Show off your patriotism by celebrating and commemorating Independence Day this year. For mobility solutions that can contribute to a more accessible environment, talk to the industry professionals at Pacific Mobility. Happy July 4th!

A Better Attitude Makes For Better Mobility Use

June 27, 2023 By Jeff Conner

Do you believe in the power of positive thinking? When it comes to adapting to mobility aids and equipment, attitude makes a difference. Overcome skepticism and embrace tools and devices that may make everyday life easier and safer. Being open to trying new tools to improve accessibility can make the adjustment that much easier. Consider this on June 5th, National Attitude Day, this year.

Are you a positive person? Even if you don’t consider yourself to be a beacon of positivity, a good attitude can make life changes and subsequent adaptations a bit easier to adjust to. A great example of this is when implementing and installing mobility aids; rather than worrying that you won’t, can’t, or don’t want to adapt to tools that may make mobility easier, consider the sheer potential and promise of these devices. June 5th is National Attitude Day. Try to embrace the potential of positivity when it comes to mobility aids and life in general!

Positive Thinking and Holistic Health

Did you know that there is a link between a positive attitude and your holistic well-being? Studies show that there is. Here are a few ways that positive thinking is connected to good health:

  • Better stress management and coping mechanisms
  • Psychological wellness
  • Enhanced immunities to colds and sickness
  • Longer life
  • Less depression
  • Lower risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Improved recovery from significant medical issues, like stroke or brain injury
  • Less stress-related inflammation

Also, studies show that a positive mental attitude is often connected to better daily choices and a healthier lifestyle, including more restful sleep, cleaner diet, more exercise, and fewer bad habits, like smoking.

Mobility Aids and Solutions

Adapting to mobility aids is easy when you consider that they provide enhanced accessibility and could lead to an improved quality of life. Buy from reputable vendors with expertise in mobility solutions and only from those that will install, demonstrate, and service your equipment for you.

A positive attitude helps when using mobility aids; here’s how:

  • Be willing to engage our team to learn more about your mobility options and solutions. Be invested in improving accessibility so that you can find the best equipment for your distinct needs.
  • Adopt a future-oriented mindset. Think ahead regarding your mobility needs to age in place. It may make sense to invest in aids that will adapt to future circumstances and challenges.
  • What would you like to do that you are unable to? Where do you want to go? Think about making your own everyday life better, easier, and safer. Things like ramps, vehicle lifts, and walkers are valid options.
  • When you embrace each day with positivity, the possibilities are endless. There are tools waiting for you to utilize and optimize- with the potential to improve quality of life.
  • Reaching out for ways to enhance everyday living shows control over your life and your situation. Even if physical limitations have you feeling down, look for tools and resources that circumvent and assist in these situations.

At Pacific Mobility, we want the client to be comfortable with the choice that they made and we always provide support after the sale to ensure customer satisfaction. Start researching and gathering information pertaining to various aids like lifts, walkers, seats, and more to make an informed decision regarding the best equipment for you. Read customer reviews in your region to find a vendor that is reputable and knowledgeable when it comes to mobility solutions.

National Attitude Day

June 5th is National Attitude Day. How will you celebrate? The aim is to maintain a positive outlook, often easier said than done. Try to avoid allowing problems, worries, or issues to control the way you look at the world today. Remember that stress and worry are at the root of many significant health problems, make a commitment to reframe your situation in a positive light. It is not about avoiding the underlying issues that make positivity challenging, but about protecting and enhancing your holistic health and wellbeing.

Observe and celebrate National Attitude Day with these simple suggestions:

  • Smile more.
  • Do something that brings you joy.
  • Try to reframe negative situations or experiences.
  • Engage others.
  • Try to let things roll off your back. This will help foster resiliency, which can lower negativity surrounding stressful experiences.
  • Establish and build relationships with others.
  • Accept that change is part of life.
  • Be proactive about finding solutions to problems, obstacles, or challenges.
  • Immerse yourself in books, blogs, or videos surrounding positivity.
  • Let go of old anger and be quick to forgive others- and yourself.

Make life easier with quality mobility aids and equipment from the professionals at Pacific Mobility. Embrace the potential power of positive thinking when you acclimate yourself to your circumstances and as you adapt to mobility tools that enhance access and improve everyday life. It really works- call or visit us today!

How Migraines Can Affect Your Mobility

June 20, 2023 By Jeff Conner

Those that suffer from migraine headaches know how debilitating they can be. In addition to the chronic pain and nausea that can accompany a migraine, it can impact your mobility as well. June is National Migraine Awareness Month and the perfect time to consider tools that may prove useful and improve safety during migraine episodes- like mobility aids.

It is estimated that around 39 million Americans live with migraine pain and the symptoms can be debilitating. There are various kinds of migraines, each with distinct as well as similar symptoms and effects. Depending on the type, severity, and frequency of your migraines, you may find that this medical condition is impacting your mobility and ability to safely stand, walk, or move about freely. Since there is a legitimate link between migraine headaches and mobility, it makes sense that mobility aids show promise for improving the safety and quality of everyday life- here is what you should know!

Migraines and Mobility

It would be easy to underestimate the effects of migraine headaches on mobility, but don’t: they are closely connected. Migraine pain can increase sensitivity to light, which may impair vision. Migraine pain also can involve periods of vertigo, but more on that later.

Difficulty moving the head without pain and discomfort are symptoms of migraines that may impede how you move and what your reaction time will be. For this reason, the symptoms of a migraine headache seem to be the perfect storm for a nasty and potentially injurious fall. As you know, a fall for a senior can be catastrophic in terms of holistic health and recovery.

So, what can help?

Many migraine sufferers combat this increased fall risk with aids like canes and walkers for sturdy support when walking or traversing. Stairlifts can provide safe transfers up and down a flight of stairs when vertigo or dizziness impacts stability. Simple solutions like grab bars can provide quick support to minimize the risk of a fall, while a reaching tool may prevent bouts of dizziness from leaning over or over-extending.

Here is a bit more about these migraine symptoms that impact mobility:

Vision

Vision impairment is another migraine symptom that directly impacts mobility. Furthermore, the effects of this decline in visual acuity can contribute to a fall. Some migraines- typically classic migraines- bring about visual disturbances that may include but that are not limited to:

  • Light flashes
  • Blind spots
  • Tingling sensations
  • Eye pain

Talk to your doctor about migraine treatment that may reduce the frequency of these disturbances, while also relieving symptomatic migraine pain, as well. They may offer insight into detecting migraine triggers, which can be invaluable for predicting, managing, and circumventing migraine episodes and acute pain.

Vertigo

Vertigo accompanies migraine headache pain in nearly half of those that live with this condition. Vertigo can impact balance and coordination, often leaving you feeling dizzy, nauseous, and lightheaded. If you have vertigo, you may stumble, fall, or lose your sense of balance. It can be very uncomfortable, lasting anywhere from a few moments to days on end.

Some additional symptoms of vertigo during a migraine episode might include sensitivity to movement, motion sickness, vomiting, pressure in the ears, and the sensation of spinning or falling down. Vertigo impacts how you walk and stand, and could be the cause of a nasty fall.

Other symptoms

What are some other symptoms of a migraine? There are a few and they can interfere with mobility, or increase your risk for an injurious fall, including visual disturbances and sensitivity to light. Additionally, migraine pain can radiate making it increasingly difficult to move your head from side to side. Some also experience acute eye pain or fainting spells, which can have repercussions on how you walk, use stairs, or drive.

National Migraine Awareness Month

National Migraine Awareness Month each June is the ideal opportunity to learn more about managing your migraine headaches. This is an observance set aside to gain awareness, understanding, and insight into what triggers your migraine pain- as well as what helps to relieve them, too. Another aim is to encourage those living with migraines, either themselves or those they love, to seek treatment from a healthcare professional. There are new medical treatments available with great potential to can reduce the frequency and severity of migraine symptoms.

Do you live with migraines? Migraines are much more than a mere headache, they are a chronic and painful medical condition that merits medical intervention, management, and treatment. Migraines can affect your mobility, too, often causing injurious falls that may compromise overall health and well-being. Talk to your medical care provider about treatment recommendations and the potential of mobility devices, like walkers and canes, to reduce your risk of a fall. Manage symptoms and maintain mobility with quality aids and equipment from Pacific Mobility. Call or visit today.

What You Gain From Installing A Stairlift In Your Home

June 13, 2023 By Jeff Conner

If you are weighing the gains from installing a stairlift in your home, you likely know the many perks and advantages of this mobility equipment. In addition to access and ease, a stairlift brings safety, freedom, comfort, and autonomy. If you are on the fence regarding a stairlift, don’t be; call or visit a mobility professional to learn more today.

Customers and consumers have a lot of buying options when it comes to mobility aids so, what makes a stairlift so special? Stairlifts are life-changing for those clients that use them, and they bring a lot to the table. Before you buy your mobility equipment or devices, consider the many advantages of stairlifts.

What do you gain from installing a stairlift in your home?

Accessibility

Perhaps the prime reason why consumers consider installing a lift at home is to increase and improve access. Many seniors may struggle with health issues, physical disabilities, chronic illnesses, or mobility limitations that restrict where they can comfortably go around their home environment. A stairlift changes that by providing easy ascent and descent of stairs, steps, and risers in the dwelling. The result is accessibility that brings about a gamut of other benefits, too.

Freedom

One benefit of this newfound accessibility is freedom. Those that have chosen to install a stairlift in the home have increased freedom over where and when they go upstairs, downstairs, and even outside! There is a lift for any staircase, interior or exterior, so the potential is limitless. Talk to a qualified mobility retailer to find out more.

Safety

Another advantage of mobility aids, including stairlifts, is the safety that they bring to the living situation. Stairlifts are smooth and comfortable, plus they have a number of safety features that help to prevent accidents or falls. Some of these added measures include seats with safety belts, object sensors, and automatic shut-off.

Convenience

Are stairlifts convenient? Yes, a stairlift is easy and convenient to use, and a demonstration from the technician installing it is usually all that is needed for buyers to adjust to its function. As for others in the home, stairlifts are non-invasive. They do not take up the entire stairway or step, and others can easily navigate, pass by, and use the stairs without complication or crowding.

As for narrow, steep, or curved stairs, there is a lift that accommodates those, too. Stairlifts are remarkably versatile, which makes it easy and convenient to make your home living situation more accessible for those residing there.

Ease

What is the learning curve for operating a stairlift? How easy will it be to adjust to a lift on the steps? It is very easy! Remember: you want the service and support of the retailer when you purchase your equipment from a reputable vendor, so shop wisely. Talk to others, read online reviews, and find a vendor that cares about the customer. The purpose of your new lift is to make everyday living easier, so the installation technician will help familiarize and acclimate you to your new lift. Got more questions? Call the vendor for support after the sale.

Peace

Another perk of a stairlift is the peace of mind that it offers, both the user and their loved ones or caregivers. Falls on or near stairs are more common than you may think, and once a senior is injured in an accidental fall, it may precipitate and exacerbate other health problems. Avoiding falls is key as people get older; a stairlift helps reduce that risk.

Support

When you buy a stairlift from a qualified vendor or retailer, you gain customer support that may be invaluable as you adapt and adjust to your mobility equipment. From service calls and inspections to simply having a resource to call on when you have a question or query, support after the sale is everything when buying a new stairlift.

Comfort

Did we mention how comfortable a stairlift can be? The ride is a smooth one, and the stairlift seats are intended to cradle the user in comfort. Additionally, consider the comfort of caregivers who can complete transfers and assist clients in a much easier way with a lift, which keeps them safer and more comfortable, too.

Autonomy

For many, mobility aids provide a way to hold onto autonomy and live out life how they wish. A stairlift may be able to facilitate aging-in-place for many seniors; that is, they can remain in their own home environment, longer. A stairlift along with other aids, can make them feel more independent and able to do what they want when they choose. That autonomy is priceless.

Wondering what a stairlift can bring to your life? Stairlifts can provide a way to age in place for seniors who want to enjoy their golden years in their homes. Talk to the team at Pacific Mobility; for generations, Pacific Mobility has been providing quality mobility aids and equipment to clients widely. Call or visit to learn more today!

Could Your Loved One Benefit From A Dementia Care Specialist?

June 6, 2023 By Jeff Conner

Do you or someone you love have dementia? Caring for an individual with dementia requires distinct skills and a lot of patience, which is where dementia care professionals can come in. The problem is that there is a shortage of these caregivers widely in the US currently. The tasks and hats that these providers wear are varied, and every June is dedicated to recognizing and honoring the achievements of these professionals. Could your loved one benefit from a dementia care professional? Here is what you should know!

Dementia is often associated with aging, and in fact, Alzheimer’s dementia is most common afflicting around 80% of those diagnosed with dementia. This typically involves changes in brain function, memory, and motor skills. In most instances, there are mobility aids that can improve quality of life, while protecting and assisting caregivers. Since dementia is usually a progressive condition, the needs of a patient can vary over time requiring managing more severe or frequent symptoms and situations. Are family caregivers the best option for consumers with dementia? If not, who can effectively and safely provide care for individuals afflicted with this condition? What about as the dementia progresses? Here is what you should know:

Family Caregiving

There are obstacles facing family caregivers, and around 70% report a decline in their mental health since providing care, including an increase in stress, anxiety, and depression. It is not unusual for the family caregiver to experience compassion burnout. Some signs of burnout include moodiness, hopelessness, and social withdrawal. Many may not realize that this added stress and anxiety can take a toll on the loved one with dementia, too, which is why it is most prudent to consider professional dementia care.

If you are experiencing signs of caregiver burnout, talk with your doctor right away.

Dementia Care

So, what is dementia care and how does it differ from senior care, in general? Since dementia is a progressive condition with symptoms that can worsen or exacerbate over time, the needs and services evolve and change. A dementia care professional is familiar with this pattern and progression, with experience in managing the symptoms and needs of the client over the span of their illness. Furthermore, they bring a range of support service networks to the table to meet the client where they are in terms of their dementia diagnosis.

Wondering what kinds of services a dementia care professional provides? Here are just a few, though the roles may vary depending on the situation, symptoms, and severity:

  • ADLs, Activities of Daily Living
  • Grooming and personal care
  • Reminders to take medications
  • Assistance with physical activities, transfers, and other mobility needs
  • Transportation to and from appointments, activities, and more
  • Dementia-related activities and therapies
  • Social engagement and activities
  • Housework, chores, and errands
  • Meal prep, nutrition counseling, or assistance, as needed
  • Transportation and errands
  • Assistance with hobbies, vocations, volunteering, or activities, as desired

Dementia Care Professionals

A better alternative to family caregiving situations may be a dementia specialist. A dementia care specialist is a professional with distinct experience and skills suited to managing symptoms, behaviors, and situations that may arise related to dementia. This may include expertise in providing care for clients with cognitive disorders, like memory loss. These professionals are compassionate, patient, and caring.

Typically, a care plan will be developed by the care expert based on a strengths assessment and the results may point toward the best living situation and resources for the client or patient. Many may be able to age in place and remain at home with some dementia caregiving or home health care in place. Talk to your medical provider to find out more about obtaining an assessment and consultation for your loved one with dementia.

Some other services provided by dementia care experts include these:

  • Assistance navigating the healthcare system
  • Empower clients, consumers, and caregivers
  • Family advisor
  • Advocacy
  • Wellness checks
  • Care coordination
  • Information and insight for decision-making
  • Mediation
  • Elder care plans
  • Networking
  • A liaison between clients, family, and providers

The main goal of a dementia care professional or specialist is to improve the life of the individual receiving care, as well as seniors, in general.

Dementia Care Professionals Month is observed in June. This offers the perfect opportunity to recognize those that care for individuals with dementia. Did you know that over 10% of Americans age 65 and older are afflicted with dementia? Women and people of color are most at-risk, according to statistics.

There is a shortage of professionals in this field and caring for someone with dementia requires patience and skill. Honor dementia care professionals widely this June.

For mobility aids that can assist those with and those caring for individuals with dementia, talk to the team at Pacific Mobility We offer quality mobility aids that provide accessibility, convenience, and peace of mind. Call or visit today.

Why Stairlifts Are Growing In Popularity

May 30, 2023 By Jeff Conner

There are many reasons why stairlifts are becoming a more-common staple seen in homes and businesses widely. Stairlifts appear to be growing in popularity as more and more people are choosing to age in place. Aging in place describes those seniors who want to remain in their own homes as long as possible, across their lifespan, and who need the residence to be accessible even in cases of physical disabilities or mobility issues.

More and more people are aging in place, due in part to mobility aids that have improved accessibility, safety, and quality of life. Additionally, mobility aids like stairlifts are more affordable, making them a viable option for a larger population of consumers widely. For those people who want to age in place, a stairlift can be life-changing.

Here are a few more reasons why stairlifts are growing in popularity and why you should consider one!

  • A compelling reason to consider a stairlift is to aid in reducing the risk of falls. Stairs, steps, and risers can be tricky. They can also be to blame for a nasty fall and subsequent injuries. Many seniors who fall never fully recover, and your chance of taking a spill doubles after age 65.
  • Anyone who has taken a fall or been hurt on stairs may experience fear and anxiety surrounding steps and staircases in the future. A stairlift can alleviate stress and worry while providing a safe transfer up and down your stairs.
  • Mobility equipment, like stairlifts, can provide invaluable peace of mind for your loved ones, caregivers, and providers. Your risk of a stumble and potential injury decreases when mobility aids are in place.
  • Stairlifts offer access to upper levels and areas of home environments, many of which were previously inaccessible and prohibitive. This leads to increased enjoyment of the home, in addition to the convenience that access brings.
  • Those that have conceded to live on the ground levels of their home can access and live upstairs, downstairs, or wherever the stairlift permits. This brings ease and comfort to the user.
  • Another reason why stairlifts are becoming more popular is the sheer comfort that they provide. Sure, the padded seat and safety belt are comfortable and designed to fit, but the ride is smooth and quiet, too.
  • No more stress and strain of ascending or descending stairs and steps in the home. Conserve your energy for more vital tasks.
  • Stairlifts are easy to operate and fast to adapt to. The qualified installer and/or technician will demonstrate proper use, field questions, and provide instruction for users. Plus, when you buy your lift from a reputable vendor, they will offer a level of support and service after the sale, so you will never be left out of commission.
  • Stairlifts are fast becoming a viable option for people with vision impairment, chronic pain, neuropathy, endurance or stamina issues, and arthritis, as well as other degenerative conditions. Suffer from vertigo? Stairlifts offer a safe alternative to stairs for those experiencing dizziness or loss of coordination and balance.
  • Did you know that stairlifts are often used as a temporary solution for those injured or in physical therapy? Stairlifts provide a therapeutic way to rehabilitate after surgery or injury, ensuring you don’t fall on stairs during recovery. If you may benefit from a temporary stairlift, talk to your medical provider to learn more!
  • Stairlifts are often covered by insurance policies. Discuss and refer to your own insurance carrier to find out if it is an option for you.
  • Hospice and palliative care often recommend stairlifts for their patients, depending on their living situation and medical needs. This is an option that can be discussed with the care provider when setting up care in the home or talking with a hospital social worker or case manager.
  • There may be an opportunity to rent or lease a stairlift as a temporary solution to accessibility. This could be useful if you have visitors coming with physical limitations or if you are planning to spend time in a second home.
  • Another contributing factor to the popularity of stairlifts is the convenience offered to non-lift users. That is, contemporary stairlifts do not encroach on the space needed for others to use the stairs. They are slim and sleek, with a seat that folds so there is a wide berth on the stairway or steps.
  • A stairlift can reinstate independence for a senior that wants to live in their own home, on their own terms. Mobility aids bring a sense of freedom- which is reason enough to look closer at stairlifts.

Want to know more about a stairlift in your home, dwelling, or business? It is more pragmatic and cost-effective than you might think! Come and talk to the team at Pacific Mobility; they have experience providing stairlifts to families for generations. We can show you the latest high-quality mobility aids and equipment to make your home more accessible.

Wish You Could Use Your Pool Again? We Can Help!

May 23, 2023 By Jeff Conner

Do you wish that you could use your pool again? Are mobility issues presenting challenges to utilizing and enjoying outdoor living space including your swimming pool? We can help! There are mobility aids and equipment that enhance access to areas of the home that are outdoors, sloped, slippery, or that involve steps including your pool. Talk to a mobility professional to learn more.

If you are fortunate enough to have a pool, go ahead and use it! If physical issues or disabilities prevent access to swimming in your pool, there are mobility aids that can help. Swimming is an excellent form of exercise that is low-impact and perfect for all ages. Some of the benefits for those with mobility issues include these:

  • Since swimming and water activities are low-impact exercises, they alleviate the pressure and strain on joints and muscles, making it easier for those with mobility challenges to move.
  • Swimming provides a form of cardio exercise that helps build muscle strength from the resistance of the water.
  • Swimming is good for the heart.
  • Swimming can improve mood and frame of mind.
  • Swimming may help improve and enhance skills required for transfers if you have a physical disability or mobility issue.
  • Swimming is often done with others or in groups, so it can be a great way to socialize and engage with people.
  • Water activities and swimming are fun!

Furthermore, having the ability to access and enjoy a swimming pool supports and facilitates independence and autonomy.

Wish you could use your pool again? Here is how we can help:

Pool Lifts

If you live with a physical disability or have mobility issues, and you have a pool, you need a lift. Pool lifts help provide more independence for those individuals that want to swim, take a quick dip, or enjoy their swimming pool. There are various types of pool lifts depending on your own mobility, and we can help you figure out the best option for your distinct pool, too.

We provide installation and offer a wide range of hydraulic lifts, battery-operated lifts, and manual options to suit your situation and preferences. Call or visit today to learn more!

Other Aids

A pool lift is not the only mobility aid that can get you back in the water, there are other tools and supports that can improve accessibility, too. A few suggestions offered by mobility experts include these:

  • Porch lifts and stairlifts can provide a way of accessing areas on difficult terrain or uneven levels. This typically includes outdoor living spaces. Buyers can choose from indoor or outdoor stairlifts, or porch lifts which provide the ascent you might need to access a deck or porch. Talk to a mobility retail professional to find out more!
  • Ramps may be all that is needed to make terrain navigable outdoors or around your property. Consumers can choose permanent ramps or portable ramp systems, which can be taken along wherever they go.
  • Canes and walkers provide that extra sturdy support when walking on uneven, rough, or outdoor surfaces, which usually have the potential to cause a fall. There is a wide variety of walkers and canes to choose from, and depending on your mobility challenges, these may help to reduce your own personal risk of a fall when visiting your pool.
  • Installing grab bars near walls, fencing, and outbuildings can also offer support to anyone with mobility challenges that are visiting the outdoor space.

The best way to assess your needs and determine the best aids and devices is to visit a mobility retailer and see viable options up close!

Healthy and Safe Swimming Week

Healthy and Safe Swimming Week 2023 is observed from May 23-29 and is an annual event that emphasizes safety near the water. Healthy and Safe Swimming Week is a time to come together, engage, and discuss ways to prevent swimming accidents. There are risks associated with recreation on or near the water; find out more about how to prevent illness, incidents, and injury during this national observance.

For example, consider these tips when taking a dip in a public place:

  • Pool, pond, splash pad, and any body of water still contain germs, even when it is chlorinated. Avoid swallowing the water whenever possible.
  • If you are sick, have been sick, or are feeling poorly, stay out of the water to keep others safe.
  • It is recommended that you shower and wash well with soap before and after using a public pool or splash pad.
  • Prevent slips and falls by never running near the pool. Reinforce this rule to others using the facility.

If you have your own pool, make sure to enlist help in keeping it clean, treated, and chemically balanced with professional pool service or assistance, as needed.

Wish you could use your pool again? Pacific Mobility can help! Swimming is an excellent form of exercise for all ages and fitness levels; make the most of your pool with these suggestions and quality mobility equipment and aids from people that care. Call or visit us today!

10 Good Reasons To Recognize Memorial Day This Year

May 16, 2023 By Jeff Conner

Memorial Day is coming soon how will you observe the holiday? There are many reasons to recognize this important date, including the historical significance and the solidarity that the occasion evokes. Consider these ten good reasons to recognize and observe Memorial Day this year.

There are many important reasons to recognize and observe Memorial Day in May, including to honor the numerous sacrifices of those serving in the military. While this holiday is used to pay respects to those that have lost their lives, it is also a time to acknowledge those that may feel the effects of military service to this day. For some, something as simple as mobility aids like stairlifts and ramps can make a vast difference in everyday life.

Ten good reasons to recognize Memorial Day this year are:

1. History

The first good reason to recognize and observe Memorial Day is the historic relevance of this holiday. Originally, Memorial Day was called Decoration Day which was implemented after the Civil War in 1868. This was a day set aside to honor Union soldiers that died during the war. In 1866, a group of women began the practice of placing wreaths and flowers on the graves of soldiers that died which is still honored and observed today.

2. Remembrance

Another reason to celebrate and take time to observe Memorial Day is for remembrance. It is a day to remember those that died fighting for their country as well as the perfect time to thank a veteran for their service. We enjoy a life of freedom due to the sacrifices of others, and we should celebrate and honor those lives that were lost. Memorial Day is a good time to reflect on all that we have due to our military members, which is another reason to recognize the holiday.

3. Honor

Honor and pay respects to servicemen and women year-round, but another good reason to observe Memorial Day is for paying tribute to these heroic individuals. While many may choose this date to vacation, travel, or simply enjoy a day off from work, it is much more than that. Do something to honor those that fought for our freedom, as well as to pay respects to loved ones that have passed. Place wreaths, plant flowers, and use flags to adorn and show that you honor and remember their lives.

4. Service People

Pay tribute to the many military members currently serving in the US, estimated to be over 1.3 million service people. Show appreciation to the troops by honoring them and their predecessors on this holiday in May. Thank a serviceman or woman for their sacrifices so that we can enjoy freedom.

5. Solidarity

Another reason to observe Memorial Day is solidarity. This holiday brings people together and provides a common ground for Americans. It creates a sense of belonging and unity among those in this country, despite differences.  It provides a chance to see that we are not so very different, after all.

6. Celebration

Memorial Day is a time to celebrate! Remember, reflect, and celebrate the sacrifices made so that we can live the lives that we do in America. It is time to take a day off and honor those that have died before- and for being grateful for our way of life.

7. Freedom

Memorial Day is the perfect time to appreciate and show gratitude for the freedoms that we all enjoy. America is the country where individuals can live their life and chase their dreams, which is why so many from far and wide aspire to come to this great country in their own pursuit of happiness.

8. The Past

By observing Memorial Day, you get to revisit the past. This is a time to reflect on those who have fought and died for this great country, making the ultimate sacrifice. Ignoring the past often means we are destined to relive it. Memorial Day serves as a reminder to all Americans.

9. The Future

Memorial Day helps to demonstrate the courage and perseverance that Americans have overcome in the face of challenges. This helps better prepare people for future obstacles and hardships that could come up. By recognizing the accomplishments and sacrifices of veterans, many may feel inspired and better able to face what their future may hold.

10. Tradition

Honor the traditions of Memorial Day, like leaving wreaths, flowers, and flags at the gravesites of loved ones, and is an official day of remembrance for soldiers widely.   This observance and rite is not exclusive to those that have served, however, it is a longstanding tradition and practice during this time in the month of May.

At Pacific Mobility, we want to pay tribute and honor all those in the military and armed forces widely this Memorial Day. Thank you for your service!
